USS Biz Trek Activity #5: Choose the Right Business

Now that you have a whole list of business ideas, it’s time to start narrowing down the choices. Your goal is to pick one business idea to research, develop, and launch as you explore the next eight lessons of the USS Biz Trek.

Loggin’ On

Open your USS Biz Trek log to the Business Ideas list you created in Activity #4. Read the list and cross off any ideas you don’t like because they’re too hard, too complicated, or too costly to start. Next, read the list again and put stars by five or more ideas that you like the most.

When you have narrowed your list down to about five good ideas, the choices will get harder. A rating system can help you evaluate your business ideas to see which one is best. The Website for Office Depot has some excellent tips for choosing a business, as well as a rating chart.

When you arrive at Office Depot, print the file titled "Business Selection Checklist." Before you leave, take time to read the information posted on this site about how to match your skills to business opportunities. When you are finished, close the new window to return to this page. Go to Office Depot.

Now read and follow the directions on the Office Depot Business Selection Checklist. When you have completed the checklist, you will know which business idea is right for you. Keep your checklist in the pocket folder of your USS Biz Trek log.
