USS Biz Trek Extension Activities
Journals
One good way to keep track of your students’ progress is to have them
keep journals. Many teachers feel that journals are difficult to keep up and
grade. This is not necessarily true. Use these tips and techniques to keep
the workload down for you and your student.
- Don’t make journaling a daily activity. Have the students write an
overall response on how their business is doing once a week, then have
them include special topics you assign, as well as copies of any
documents pertaining to their business such as financial planning,
business plans, ad campaigns etc.
- Grade them in the middle of a grading period, not towards the end when
you will feel rushed.
- Don’t make it an elaborate grade. Tell them what you expect to see,
and assign points for each item. For example, in one six week period,
you may have six general responses, three assigned responses and two or
three documents. Make each assignment worth ten points, and the
documents worth five points. Make sure the total is a grade of one
hundred. If not, adjust accordingly.
- Don’t count off for grammar and misspelled words, but do circle them
and ask that they be corrected.
- Write brief remarks in the margins.
