Explain why you would be a good entrepreneur. What values, attitudes, needs and expectations do you have?

Class Discussion

  1. What new opportunities might be available to you as an entrepreneur because of rapidly changing technology and the global market place?
  2. What do you consider to be the greatest reward of starting your own business? Why?
  3. What do you consider to be the greatest risk in starting your own business? Why?
  4. Math ­ In the city of Clear Lake, 193 new businesses opened in 1997. By 1998, 20 percent of them were no longer in operation. How many were still open in 1998? One year later, another 11 percent closed. How many were still open in 1999?

Project

Research an entrepreneur. Have the students choose an entrepreneur and explore his/her life. How did they decide to become an entrepreneur? What is their niche? What process did they use to start their business? What traits do they demonstrate? Have the students personalize their report by giving it in an alternative format such as a videotape or other performance, mock radio/television interview or mock magazine/newspaper article.
